Aout Broken Storm Windows

I have written a number of articles about consumer rating for replacement windows but today I want to look at something different.
The first thing to do when you want to replace storm windows is to put together all the necessary tools. You will need pliers, your measured tempered glass, brush, glazing compound, putty knife, safety goggle, putty knife and a trash container for the glass that can be thrown away.
You should start by removing all the old caulking using a flat instrument or a putty knife. Save glazers points if they are there. Once you’ve done that try to remove the glass. Just make sure you have your gloves and goggles on you. Remove the chips or slivers that come up. You need to then accurately measure the space where the window will go. Measure the top, bottom and sides.
There is always a space left for fitting in the window. This is the part to be measured. The glass should neither fit to loosely or to tight. Give a 1/8 inch allowance on either the top or bottom and on one side. Now take your time and try to fit the glass into the frame. Do not rush when doing this.
Replace old glazier’s points if the window had them. Look at the glazing compound - if it is soft take it and roll it around your hands (make sure they are bare); If you are using a fresh one then there is no need to soften it.
Spread the glazing compound as neatly as you can around the window using the putty knife sealing it into the wooden or metal frame. You should make sure that all sides especially the corners have enough spread. Make sure there isn’t any caulking showing when viewing from the other side. You can clean any caulking spill on the following day and then leave everything to set - for about a week.
By the way if you find this confusing just find window replacement contractors to help you.
That is everything there is to replacing your broken storm windows. Just make sure that you have the right tools and information specific to your own house design. It is also vital to look for information about who makes the best replacement windows.
Some people have been scammed while searching for windows information - so do becareful. Search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN/Live offer very good search results - so do consider using any of them if you are looking for more information about this topic.
